After just three episodes, IT: Welcome to Derry has solidified itself as a major streaming hit with one of the best debut seasons on HBO Max. Serving as a prequel to Andy Muschietti's IT and IT Chapter Two movies, Welcome to Derry has remained around the top of HBO Max's streaming charts since its premiere on October 26.

Expanding its success, Deadline has now reported that IT: Welcome to Derry season 1's average domestic and global viewership puts it in the top three best freshman seasons in HBO Max history. Welcome to Derry episode 3 averaged 5 million United States cross-platform viewers in its first three days, while its series premiere had a sizable 5.7 million average. Overall, Welcome to Derry season 1 has averaged 9.2 million U.S. viewers per episode and nearly 15 million global viewers per episode. The overall season's new achievement follows the fact that IT: Welcome to Derry episode 1 itself set a record as HBO Max's third-best premiere of all time behind House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. Unfortunately, HBO Max didn't reveal which other two TV shows Welcome to Derry has joined as the platform's three best freshman seasons. While IT: Welcome to Derry episode 3's figures prove the series has maintained strong viewership after the premiere, it still has several episodes remaining that need to hold onto those numbers. Welcome to Derry season 1 has a total of eight episodes, so five are still left, with the finale set to premiere on HBO Max on Sunday, December 14. IT: Welcome to Derry season 1 has also been going up against a particularly strong Sunday night HBO slate since its debut. Also premiering on Sunday nights are the freshman seasons of Tim Robinson's The Chair Company and Rachel Sennott's I Love LA, both of which are exhibiting strong numbers for HBO Max's comedy catalog. Averaging 3 million U.S. viewers per episode, The Chair Company has become the top freshman comedy season for HBO Max ever. Meanwhile, I Love LA also now boasts a 12% increase in viewership for its second episode from the premiere, with a season average of 1.4 million U.S. viewers. However, The Chair Company is set to end two weeks before and I Love LA will end one week after IT: Welcome to Derry's season 1 finale, keeping up the competition through November and mid-December. Considering the premiere already rivaled the viewership of House of the Dragon and The Last of Us, IT: Welcome to Derry season 1's high overall average is a good sign for the series' future. The show's producers and creators have frequently mentioned a three-season plan for IT: Welcome to Derry, though HBO still hasn't given an official greenlight beyond season 1. However, with strong viewership being maintained across the first half of the freshman season, Welcome to Derry looks like it'll be here to stay and complete the creative team's vision of diving deeper into Pennywise and Derry's history. For now, there's still plenty more secrets and scares to explore in season 1's remaining episodes, with IT: Welcome to Derry episode 4 premiering on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, November 16 at 9 p.m. ET. As the show has also maintained promising critical and audience reviews throughout the season, currently holding a"Certified Fresh" 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the hope is that IT: Welcome to Derry will only grow in viewership and acclaim as season 1 progresses. 7/10 It: Welcome to Derry Like Follow Followed TV-MA Horror Mystery Drama Release Date October 26, 2025 Network HBO Directors Andy Muschietti Writers Jason Fuchs, Stephen King, Austin Guzman Franchise IT 8 Images Close Cast See All
