Alabama is one of several states across the country that currently allows children to attend public schools without regular vaccinations due to religious exemptions.

) - Every year, students across the state need their vaccinations up to date, unless you have a religious exemption .

If parents wanted religious exemption from those vaccines, they’d have to take it up with their county health department and they would approve or deny their request.“This bill would take the government out of that role and parents or guardians could just, in writing they’ve got to present to the school officials that they have a religious objection to their child receiving vaccinations,” he said.

This bill comes off the heels of Florida health officials dealing with an outbreak of measles, fueled by unvaccinated children. With eleven meeting days left in this year’s legislative session, only time will tell if this bill will make it to the governor’s desk.Copyright 2024 WAFF. All rights reserved.
