Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall
While Denis Villeneuve prepares to get cracking on his James Bond reboot for Amazon, the tech giant has already started to mine the legendary franchise on Prime Video after purchasing its creative rights from longtime stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G.
Wilson. Villeneuve was chosen to helm the new movie after an intense search following the conclusion of Daniel Craig's tenure five years ago. It was reported that Christopher Nolan didn't show interest in the gig after he was told that he wouldn't have his customary final-cut privileges. Amazon intends to expand the James Bond franchise beyond theatrical films and will likely produce streaming spin-offs featuring different characters. Prime Video previously released a reality show inspired by Bond, and hosted by Brian Cox. While fans await a new update about the reboot, the streamer added to the anticipation with its tongue-in-cheek new show, Bait. The six-part comedy stars Riz Ahmed as a struggling actor whose life turns upside down after it is rumored that he has landed the role of James Bond. In an interview, Ahmed said that he received Broccoli's blessing when he began working on the show. Bait opened to positive reviews earlier this week. It now holds a"Certified Fresh" 95% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads,"Riz Ahmed creates and stars in this compassionate, humor-filled meta-satire that dazzlingly lures in its audience like delicious Bait." In her review, Collider's Tania Hussain wrote,"As a show that is hard to look away from, Bait moves compellingly between waves of comedy, anxiety, and cultural observation for something darker and equally believable." Posts By Macklen Makhloghi Prime Video's Relationship With the James Bond Franchise Is Underway Hussain also praised the show for highlighting the ugly side of fandom, which seems pertinent this week, in the wake of actor Paapa Essiedu's comments about receiving death threats after he was cast as Severus Snape in HBO's Harry Potter series. According to FlixPatrol, Bait was among the most-watched shows on the domestic Prime Video chart following its release on March 25. Bait also features Guz Khan, Aasiya Shah, and Sheeba Chaddha. The show was created by Ahmed and directed by Bassam Tariq and Tom George. You may recognize Tariq as the filmmaker who was attached to direct Marvel's Blade reboot, starring Mahershala Ali. That project never materialized, although he has since made a different movie with the two-time Oscar-winning actor. 7 10 Bait Like Follow Followed Comedy Drama Sci-Fi Release Date March 25, 2026 Network Prime Video Showrunner Riz Ahmed, Ben Karlin Directors Tom George, Bassam Tariq Writers Riz Ahmed, Azam Mahmood, Prashanth Venkataramanujam Cast
