Jon Johnson The first year as head coach at Geneva for Jamel Harris was certainly challenging for a variety of reasons, many that had nothing to do with Xs and Os.
“Two weeks into the job, we had to figure out where to work out … where to dress out for games. A lot of times the visitors had a little better set up for our home games than we did. We’re watching film in different coaches classrooms in smaller areas. Harris also learned a lot about himself in being a head coach for the first time after serving 19 years as an assistant.
“But he does a good job making decisions, especially in our passing game. He’s been having to step up in a leadership role and he’s doing a good job for us.” Defensively, King returns as a leader at linebacker, where he’s started since his freshman season. Chaseton Morris can play linebacker or safety and Samuel Cade is a linebacker. Landon Elmore is a returning starter across the defensive line. Kolby Jones, who suffered a torn ACL, returns across the front.“Hayden Love is going to help us out in the passing game at receiver,” Harris said. “He’s never played football before. He’s just learning the game and working hard … getting better every day.
“Depth is a concern because we only got like 40 players,” Harris said. “My biggest concern is just staying healthy. Last year we had that injury bug. We had more people injured on the sideline than on the field.
