Victor Wembanyama gives the home fans a show in France’s first game of the Paris Olympics.

DAVID MUNDEE Though seven starters return on offense and eight on defense from last year’s 7-4 playoff team, the G.W. Long Rebels enter the season with mixed emotions.

People are also reading… “He has good feet and throws the ball well. The thing we have to get him up to speed is not the ability but the understanding of the offense and how to run it. That takes time with quarterbacks.” Others expected to see playing time in the offensive backfield are Cole Andrews, Hunter Hagler and Sam Spencer .

Two other players who started last year on the OL – Landon Grubbs and Micah Hawkins – have been shifted to defense to help shore up areas on that side. The defense is experienced, led by four returning starters at linebacker -- Landon Grubbs , Wood, Pritchett and McLeod. Grayson Hodges is expected to add depth.

One of the negatives for Watts and Long is a small senior class, as only six players from that group are on this year’s roster.
