Police unaware of 'joyride' claims after provincial commissioner's car was hijacked
Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, spokesperson for the police in North West, told City Press that at the time when the car was hijacked in Johannesburg last month, it was on its way to fetch Kwena.
Gauteng police revealed at the time that the car was driven by a member of the police service, who was hijacked after he was ambushed by two armed men in a white Audi. He was then forced to stop next to the road and was driven to Rabie Ridge near Midrand, where he was shot.Further details emerged this week when a message started circulating that the member was Simon Dumakude, who drove Kwena’s BMW sedan.
In the message, which was shared among police, it was stated that Dumakude was shot and dropped off in Tembisa. It was alleged in the message that the car was allocated to Kwena’s clerk, who had been using it for private use.Two sources also told City Press that at the time of the incident, the car was not being used for state business, but private use.
