Phoenix endured one of its warmest Februaries on record, with temperatures soaring to 66 degrees, tying the 1991 record. As March arrives, a series of storms threatens the state with strong winds, increasing the risk of wildfires and blowing dust.
February 2025 is proving to be one of the warmest Februaries on record in Phoenix . The average temperature reached a remarkable 66 degrees, tying the record set in 1991 at Sky Harbor Airport. As March begins, a significant shift in weather patterns is anticipated, with back-to-back storms moving through the state. The first storm is expected to arrive today, bringing strong winds across the Valley and beyond.
Gusts could reach 35 mph in Phoenix, while areas of central and southern Arizona may experience wind gusts up to 45 mph.The combination of strong winds and dry conditions will significantly increase the risk of wildfires. Fire Weather Warnings are in effect from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. today for the Valley and all of central and southern Arizona. Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution, avoiding activities that could spark a fire. This includes discarding cigarettes properly and ensuring vehicles are free of any dragging parts that could create a spark. A single spark can easily ignite a devastating wildfire. In addition to the wildfire danger, blowing dust is also a concern. Blowing Dust Advisories are in effect from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. for central and southern Arizona, where visibility could drop below 1 mile at times. Drivers encountering low visibility due to blowing dust are advised to pull over to the right as far as possible, put their car in park, and remove their foot from the brake. It is essential to remain in a safe location until the dust clears before resuming travel. Despite the dry conditions associated with this first storm, a few rain and snow showers may occur in the high country and northeastern Arizona tonight and early tomorrow morning. Another weak storm is expected to arrive on Monday, bringing increased wind speeds and a renewed chance of rain and snow showers throughout the state. The Valley may even experience a slight chance of isolated showers on Monday, as temperatures drop into the upper 60s for the day's high. Forecast models suggest the possibility of another storm system later next week. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for updates as the week progresses
