The incident allegedly occurred shortly before 11 p.m. March 8, when Azevedo told Howard to grab the tusk of a woolly mammoth fossil, court records state. Azevedo then lifted Howard onto his shoulders so he could reach it. When the employee tried to contact the men, they allegedly ran outside before being located and brought back in. Security was then notified. Investigators said the tusk weighed about 200 pounds and was valued at roughly $1,000 per pound, placing its estimated worth at around $200,000. Both men were arrested March 8 and later released on $15,000 surety bonds, according to court records.
