A PennDOT safety study revealed that in locations where traditional intersections were replaced with roundabouts, crashes involving injuries were reduced by 51
percent.
In the study, PennDOT evaluated 47 roundabouts on state roads and intersections that were previously stop-or signal-controlled with at least three years of crash data before and after the roundabouts were built."Roundabouts have proven to be an irreplaceable tool in reducing crashes at intersections," PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said. "Given the dramatic increase in safety and traffic flow, PennDOT will continue evaluating intersections for roundabouts.
Officials explained that roundabouts are frequently installed to address safety issues, calm traffic, improve traffic flow, and beautify intersections.Route 94 & Stoney Point Road, opened in 2021.Beaver County: Route 68 , Route 1034 and Route 6018 , opened in 2011.Route 73 and Oley Road, opened in 2019.Route 213 and Route 2010 , opened in 2016.Route 3024 , Powell Road and Freshcorn Road, opened in 2015; andRoute 82 and Unionville Road, opened in 2005;Route 3062 , Romansville Road and Shadyside Road, Opened in 2017.Route 6/19 and Route 198 , opened in 2017.Route 34 , Route 1007 and Mountain Road, opened in 2014; andRoute 2017 and Rossmoyne Road, opened in 2019.
