A section of Interstate 83 between Dauphin and Cumberland counties will be completely closed for several hours Saturday night into Sunday morning.
PennDOT is replacing the 29th Street Bridge in Harrisburg. Detours will be set up this weekend so crews can demolish the bridge.The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is scheduled to remove the 29th Street Bridge in Harrisburg as part of the massive $1 billion Capital Beltway Project.Weather permitting, PennDOT said lane restrictions will start at 7 p.m. Saturday with a full closure planned for 11 p.m. It said one lane of traffic is expected to be open in each direction by 5 a.m.
Northbound traffic will exit at 19th Street, then take 19th Street south to Paxton Street, then Paxton Street east to Eisenhower Boulevard north to the ramp to northbound I-83.In addition, nighttime lane restrictions are in place from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. in both directions of I-83 so PennDOT can prepare the bridge for demolition.
The highway project will address worsening roadway conditions on the more than 50-year-old interstate, as well as tackle high traffic and congestion, and improve safety.
