The Nittany Lions have withstood a couple of changes up front this spring.

practices this spring. This Tuesday, with just over a week remaining before the Blue-White Game, Penn State’s offensive line and wide receivers took center stage. Penn State showcased its temporary starting offensive line in a 1-on-1 pass-rushing drill with the linebackers.

Here are noteworthy results from the session: — From right to left, the line was Drew Shelton, Vega Ioane, Nick Dawkins, Cooper Cousins and J’ven Williams. Nolan Rucci and Anthony Donkoh, start-worthy right tackles, each remained out of action. Cousins stepped up with — Walk-on Dom Rulli was the second center, largely because Ioane and Cousins solely took reps at guard. Garrett Sexton was next behind Williams at right tackle. Texas A&M transfer TJ Shanahan Jr. replaced Cousins at right guard. — Starting linebacker Tony Rojas and potential starter Ta’Mere Robinson were absent, but Keon Wylie, Dom DeLuca and Anthony Speca were among the first to participate. Freshman LaVar Arrington II wasn’t far behind. — Williams topped Wylie in both chances, though the second could have potentially been called for a hold. Wylie is a proficient pass rusher and was used in that role before last year’s injury, so it’s a good sign to see Williams take a big step forward in his pass protection ability. Wylie won his third rep against Mason Carlan. — Arrington was perhaps the most impressive defender, beating veteran Ioane on a hard inside move. He also made fellow freshman Owen Aliciene look silly at left tackle. — DeLuca beat Shelton with a nifty spin and beat guard Alex Birchmeier badly inside but lost to Ioane. About what you would expect from the veteran, who should continue to provide a lot of consistency at linebacker with a few outstanding plays here and there. — Speca struggled in the viewing window, losing reps to Dawkins and Rulli. He clearly has some growing to do in the pass rush. Penn State also ran a brief 2-on-2 routes session between pass catchers and defensive backs. Including major absences, here are a few more notes from Tuesday’s practice session.— Key absences: QB Ethan Grunkemeyer, RB Quinton Martin Jr., OT Nolan Rucci, OT Anthony Donkoh. — Offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki took a hands-on approach during red-zone work involving Drew Allar and a few of his wide receivers. Kotelnicki gave pointed advice to the receivers on their breaks. He nitpicked how lofted he wanted Allar to throw certain passes. The former D-III center even got down in his stance and snapped one to Allar. Normal stuff from Kotelnicki. — New running backs coach Stan Drayton has developed a reputation for being vocal and intense, and he maintained that reputation during practice No. 10. He was especially particular during pass protection drills, asking for more thump on the sleds and telling Nick Singleton to work on keeping his elbows in. Drayton is as experienced as running backs coaches come. And he knows those little things will matter when the fall rolls around. — In the 2-on-2 session, transfers Kyron Hudson and Devonte Ross were the first wide receivers to take reps. Tyseer Denmark and Liam Clifford came next. Tight end Khalil Dinkins joined Kaden Saunders third. Then, deeper rotations began, starting with freshman tight end Andrew Olesh.— Key absences included CB Zion Tracy, S King Mack, DT Alonzo Ford Jr., LB Tony Rojas, DE Dani Dennis-Sutton and LB Ta’Mere Robinson. All of them except for Robinson have been absent for multiple weeks. — CB A.J. Harris returned this week after an absence last week. CB Kenny Woseley also remained active after missing a session two weeks ago. — Zuriah Fisher, Max Granville and Texas A&M transfer Enai White remained near the front of defensive end rotations. White was an obvious physical project with talent when he signed, and that’s still the case based on the eye test. — Elliot Washington II remained an impressive standout this spring. He had a handful of strong reps in the 2-on-2 session, including against rising WR Tyseer Denmark. — Freshman CB Daryus Dixson was at one point tasked with covering explosive Troy transfer WR Devonte Ross. He stuck with him until the top of the route when Ross separated with his speed on a deep corner. Still, a pretty good sign for the youngster who was one of Penn State’s highest-rated recruits in this class., where our team of sports betting experts has reviewed the experience, payout speed, parlay options and quality of odds for multiple sportsbooks. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
