The man was struck while standing on state Route 94 near College Avenue around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday
A pedestrian standing on state Route 94 was struck and killed by an SUV in Lemon Grove early Tuesday, according to a California Highway Patrol official.
The crash was reported around 1:20 a.m. when a 48-year-old woman from San Diego driving a Toyota RAV4 was unable to avoid hitting the man standing in one of the far right lanes of the westbound freeway near College Avenue, Officer Jared Grieshaber said in a news release. He died before he could be taken to a hospital, Grieshaber said. The county medical examiner’s office had not yet released his name.CHP officials do not believe the driver was under the influence but are investigating if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash for the pedestrian.
