Tom Hardy has been in plenty of famous movies over the last 15–20 years, but many would argue that his most famous role came from starring opposite Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders. Hardy’s status as Alfie Solomons has recently been called into question thanks to the recent release of The Immortal Man, the Peaky Blinders spin-off film set in the WWII era of Birmingham years after the events of the Season 6 finale.
It was confirmed in the days leading up to the release of The Immortal Man that Alfie Solomons would not have any role to play, but creator Steven Knight revealed that he tossed around an idea to include him that ultimately didn’t make the final cut. The sequel film has still shone with mostly positive reviews and streaming success on Netflix. In 2017, three years after he made his debut as Alfie Solomons, Tom Hardy teamed up with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight for another British crime thriller series, Taboo. The show follows adventurer James Keziah Delaney , who returns to London during the War of 1812 to rebuild his father’s shipping empire, despite push-back from the government and his biggest competitors. The series co-stars Oona Chaplin, who recently played Varang in Avatar: Fire and Ash. Although it’s been almost 10 years since the first season of Taboo was released, it’s still one of the most popular watches on Apple TV in several countries. In America, all episodes of the series are streaming on Peacock and Pluto TV. Taboo is the perfect mash-up of Peaky Blinders and True Detective, perfect for fans of the classic British mystery adventure with an ambiguous hint of the supernatural. Creator Steven Knight has confirmed that he and Tom Hardy have discussed ideas for a second season, even admitting that they know where they want to take the show. However, he does admit that it’s a matter of making it happen, which is much more complicated in some cases than just coming up with an idea. Hardy is also a co-creator on the show along with his father, Chips Hardy. There is no concrete plan for Taboo Season 2 to begin production, but the very existence of an idea is enough to get fans excited about the potential of a return for one of Hardy’s most famous characters.
