Alan in the Frasier reboot

It has been a year since it was canceled, but apparently, Paramount+'s legacy sitcom reboot, Frasier, is not yet fully dead. Revivals have become the norm in Hollywood over the last decade, with studios and creatives mining inspiration from previous content for new material.

While some have succeeded in the endeavor, such as Kathy Bates' Matlock quasi-reboot, the majority of them have failed. While many of these rebooted shows originated on network TV, the expansion of small screen programming to streaming platforms has allowed services to house the second coming of legacy series. This has given Paramount+, Netflix, and their peers experimental content without disrupting the more rigid network TV schedule. The tradeoff is that seasons tend to be shorter, which makes it difficult for sitcoms, like the Frasier revival, to establish itself. Kelsey Grammer Reveals That The Frasier Reboot Is Still Being Shopped Around While the Frasier reboot was nowhere near the original in quality, it's only fair to also point out that the Paramount+'s limited runtime wasn't enough for it to find its footing. By the time it was canceled, it felt like the show was only on the cusp of finally breaking through. The Frasier season 2 finale formally set up a proper team-up between Frasier and Roz, and an appearance from David Hyde Pierce's Niles were more possible than ever. It has been a year since Paramount+ decided to pull the plug on the show, but Kelsey Grammer, who starred and executive produced the reboot, recently claimed that the show is not fully dead. He said that there is funding for the project and that he is still pushing for it. Whether this comes to fruition is uncertain, but the fact that he is still keeping the show alive means that he is truly committed and continuing Frasier's third act on the small screen. What Are The Chances Of The Frasier Reboot Being Picked Up By Another Platform? Unfortunately, Grammer didn't get into specifics about his work on shopping the Frasier reboot. However, it seems like there's a hold-up on Paramount+/CBS side of things. Historically, this kind of endeavor has a low success rate, although it isn't impossible to successfully find a new home for previously-canceled shows. Now, however, the Frasier reboot's best chance of succeeding long term is for it to land on network TV. Subscribe to the newsletter for Frasier reboot insight Want deeper context on reboot attempts? Because of the way it's set-up, half-hour sitcoms are likely to do better when they're given a longer cycle. So instead of a 10-episode season, the Frasier reboot on network TV can have at least 18 outings per year. It will also guarantee that the show will return every year, inching Grammer closer to his lofty Frasier reboot dream.
