A mild evening expected, welcome for Yu Davrish's start in Pittsburgh; Luis Campusano stays ready to catch
The Padres almost certainly can’t keep relying almost exclusively on the three hitters in the middle of their batting order if they want to continue winning games consistently.
“The whole year basically,” manager Bob Melvin said. “Right now, our three, four, five guys are the guys that are doing a lot of the damage and carrying a lot of the load. We’re gonna have to pick it up across the board offensively.”“I think people feed off of that when they see guys going up there and seeing the ball well,” he said. “I think if we continue doing that, the team will feed off of that.
In his 204 career starts where the temperature was 60 degrees or above, he has a 3.47 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Perhaps he won’t even have to go to those extra lengths — at least not unless the temperature drops as he goes deep in the game, which he has in three of his four starts this season. The only one he didn’t last six innings: His start at Oracle Park.Luis Campusano was on the field Wednesday morning playing catch wearing his shin guards and with his catcher’s helmet on backward. He has been on the field early every day, usually by 1 p.m.
