Two bizarre errors by Nola help runs score; Wil Myers could need some extended down time
They have made up for it the past two games.
Two of the errors were odd ones committed by catcher Austin Nola, the first of them with two outs in the second inning when his throw to pitcher Joe Musgrove hit Colin Moran’s bat and bounced backward, allowing Nick Senzel to go from first to second. Senzel scored when Moran flared the next pitch into left field for a single.
Rosters decrease from 28 to 26 on Monday, and a 13-pitcher limit was to go in effect. Pitcher health following a short spring training remains a concern and prompted the change. “I’m not sure what we’ll do,” Melvin said. “It means you have a little bit of a lesser bench, too, and I’d like to be able to make some moves here. So it’s probably gonna go right down to the wire and see how our bullpen has been used and what we need. We will be coming off an off-day the day after that. So we’ll see how it goes. I think we can go either way with that one.”Travel issues getting to El Paso on Monday prompted the Padres to push back Mike Clevinger’s final rehab start a day.
