Padres pregame: Nick Martinez on mound as Friars seek another sweep of Reds
The Giants are again atop the NL West. The Dodgers are right behind them. The Braves are off to a slow start but they are the defending world champs., so by those standards Thursday’s 9:35 a.m. start in Cincinnati is something of a breather for the 31-year-old right-hander.at the hands of the Padres. They rank dead-last in the majors in runs scored , on-base percentage and slugging and second-to-last in batting average. They have just one qualifying regular hitting above .200.
The Padres have since acquired Sean Manaea. They’ve called up MacKenzie Gore. They’re welcoming Mike Clevinger back into the fold next week and Blake Snell a bit after that.
