The Penn Hills Police Department announced Lex’s passing on social media.
“Lex bravely served Penn Hills and the surrounding communities from 2014 to 2020,” the social media post said. “During his six-year career, Lex made many apprehensions of wanted suspects, drug seizures, located numerous illegal firearms, and kept the community and officers safe.”
It went on to say that Lex was popular with children and would frequently visit elementary schools in the Penn Hills area to do demonstrations. He also was “a favorite” at the Penn Hills Citizen’s police academy, the post said. “Lex enjoyed showing off for them as much as the community enjoyed watching him demonstrate his skills. He always took time to take pictures with the citizens after his demonstrations.”
The police department closed by sending their condolences to Lex’s handler, Sgt. Matthew Junod, and his family. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
