Another busy construction season is expected throughout 2026 for the Utah Department of Transportation. The department said 176 new constructions worth $2.8 billion would start this year. Another 57 projects currently underway will remain ongoing.
The projects range from fixing worn-out pavement and bridges to expanding highways with the goal of easing congestion. UDOT said all the projects are designed to make it easier and safer for commuters to get where they need to go."Every project we start is about taking care of the system Utahns rely on every day. From fixing key routes and preserving bridges to building trails and supporting transit, this work is focused on making travel safer, more reliable and more accessible," said Lisa Wilson, UDOT deputy director. "At the end of the day, our goal is simple: help people get where they're going safely." Some of the key new projects include the $65 million expansion of Legacy Parkway through Davis County. UDOT began construction earlier this week to add a new lane in each direction of Legacy Parkway from Farmington to I-215 in North Salt Lake. The most expensive project - a new 2.8-mile freeway-to-freeway connection in Lehi - is expected to cost UDOT $621 million. Once finished, there will be 14 new bridges, two new pedestrian bridges, and a connection between Mountain View Corridor and I-15 just north of Utah Lake. UDOT also plans to extend the West Davis Highway up to 1800 North in West Point. The extension would add another 2.5 miles of road, providing more travel options through Weber County. Construction is expected to begin in summer and last through to the middle of 2029. Other projects include widening I-15 and reconfiguring Bluff Street near St. George, widening US-6 in Utah County, and making I-15 pavement repairs through Salt Lake County.
