There are plenty of familiar faces along with more than a few new names for the Mets this season, including new players signed or traded for, and at least one rookie looking to make a name for himself.
Step right up and greet the Mets — 2026 edition. The Amazins announced their roster for the upcoming season on Wednesday, a day before their season opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Citi Field. There are plenty of familiar faces along with more than a few new names added this season, whether through trades, free agency, or rookie call-ups .Manager Carlos Mendoza returns for his third season at the helm of the Mets, with hitting coach Troy Snitker and pitching coach Justin Willard joining for their first seasons at their respective posts.A name some Mets fans may not be as familiar with is Carson Benge, a rookie who made the team after a stellar Spring Training in which he hit over .400. Throughout the minors and during Spring Training, Benge continued to get on base while keeping strikeouts down. While he only has limited playing time above the AA level, his slash line through the minors and his stellar Spring Training suggest he may be ready to handle major league pitching. One name not on the list is a nine-time All-Star reliever who did not make the team out of camp — but it appears he may stick with the franchise. Former closer Craig Kimbrel — who is fifth all-time in saves with 440 — was not on the Opening Day roster for the Mets, but decided not to opt-out of his contract,
