Gillian Anderson and Annabeth Gish in The X-Files
After almost a decade, The X-Files are being re-opened. Gillian Anderson, who starred as the skeptical Dana Scully on the original series, has encouraging news for fans: she's read the script, and she assures fans that they won't be disappointed.
Anderson spoke about the new series on a panel at MegaCon Orlando last weekend that was moderated by Collider's Maggie Lovitt. Both Anderson and longtime co-star David Duchovny have previously discussed being open to appearing on the new series, but no official announcements have been made about their participation at this time. At the panel, Anderson sang the praises of Sinners director Ryan Coogler, who is spearheading the reboot of the series. She also touted Coogler's endorsement from original series creator Chris Carter, who will executive produce the reboot: "I was in Washington at a con last weekend, and I told the crowd that I'd read the script, and it was really good, and to not think disparagingly about it. It's very different and very similar all at the same time, and it's very special. I think he's incredibly talented, and I think he's one of the only people who can do something unique and do it justice, and he's completely obsessed with the series. He's one of the most talented filmmakers who's out there. The fact that Chris has him as the person who's going to be involved in the franchise is awesome, and a huge gift. You guys will see what he has in mind, and I don't think you'll be disappointed." Related The Truth Is In Here — The Collider TV Quiz! This week, X marks the spot. The series is set up as a sequel to the original series and will see two mismatched FBI agents assigned to a long-shuttered branch of the agency dedicated to investigating unexplained and paranormal phenomena. Danielle Deadwyler, of Till and The Piano Lesson, will star as one of the agents, and it was announced today that she'll be joined by Himesh Patel . It has been given a pilot order at Hulu, with Coogler, who is coming off a Best Original Screenplay win at this year's Academy Awards, writing and directing the first episode in addition to spearheading the series. Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler are also producing the series. Even if she doesn't turn up on The X-Files, Anderson has a busy slate of projects ahead of her. She's starring alongside Hannah Einbinder in the LGBTQ-themed horror film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, and with Ben Affleck in the crime thriller Animals. She will also star in Netflix's new miniseries adaptation of The Boys From Brazil.
