WILLOWICK, Ohio - While the relieved parent of a pet parrot called the Willowick firefighters “humanitarians,” WFD proved yet again that they care for all residents, even those with fur, feathers, tails, or scales.
Willowick resident Jackie Fisher told 19 News one of her worst nightmares came true on Sept. 18 when her beloved 20-year-old Eclectus Parrot named Mango flew away. Mango was used to going on adventures with Fisher, but this was the first time this house bird flew off her shoulder as she got out of the car to walk inside the home. He landed on a tree branch about 70 feet off the ground in the woods next to Fisher’s home by East 286th Street and Cresthaven Drive. The sun had just set, and Fisher feared the wooded area filled with winged predators would make the brightly colored domesticated parrot an easy target. “It was getting dark and the woods has many hawks, owls, and blue jays who might attack Mango, who would not be able to defend himself and certainly would not know to eat out in the wild.” Fisher shared. “I feared for his life!”While this unusual call for service was not for a cat stuck in a tree cliche, nevertheless, they came prepared. However, the talkative bird didn’t want to listen...Thankfully, that’s where Mango’s wild adventure ended. Before he was returned to Fisher’s care, the firefighters took a photo with their new feathered friend. “Thanks to our firemen who also are humanitarians, Mango is home where he belongs!” Fisher shared. “You’re our heroes!”Avon contractor indicted for schemes totaling nearly $3MNortheast Ohio Trick-or-Treat dates and times for Halloween 2025St. Stanislaus School in Cleveland mourns loss of beloved teacher, her husband with balloon release
