THE only annual orchid show and fair in Scotland is set to return to Glasgow for the 25th year.
The Glasgow Botanic Gardens Orchid Fair 2024 will take place on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12 in the historic Kibble Palace.
The event allows guests to admire displays of the exotic plants, as well as purchase a wide range of orchids from specialist UK nurseries. The Orchid Fair is free to attend and members of the Scottish Orchid Society, who assist with the running of the event, will be on hand to offer advice on how to care for your orchids or answer any questions.
Alan MacKenzie, chair of the Scottish Orchid Society, said:"We are delighted to welcome a large range of orchid societies and traders this year, there really will be something for everyone."Growing tropical orchids indoors is increasingly popular, on the windowsill or under lights, and there are even hardy orchids that can grow happily outside in the garden, as well as those suited to traditional greenhouse-growing.
Helen Millner will also return to the event with her award-winning educational exhibit on orchid pollination while on Saturday Christine Nicholson, orchid propagator at the Botanic Gardens, will lead a guided tour behind the scenes of their orchid collection. The group actively supports orchid protection and conservation, as well as growing and caring for their own plants. The event will run from 10am to 5pm each day.
