Thanks to our work with President Trump passing the largest middle-class tax cut in history, this year is shaping up to be the biggest tax refund season ever.

FILE - Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., speaks during the Conservative Political Action Conference, CPAC 2024, in Oxon Hill, Md., Feb. 22, 2024. As Americans look ahead to President Donald Trump ’s State of the Union address, one message that consistently stands out is that his policies putting American workers, families, and small businesses first are making a real difference for hardworking Americans in communities like ours.

Here at home, small businesses remain the backbone of our local economy. From family-owned restaurants and local retailers, to construction crews and manufacturers, these entrepreneurs drive innovation, create jobs, and strengthen our communities. They are, indeed, the backbone of the American economy. Many of them have told me that the Working Families Tax Cuts – historic legislation passed by President Trump and Republicans in Congress – have given them the ability to reinvest in their businesses, hire new employees, upgrade equipment, and keep prices more stable for their customers – for starters. One great example is Mr. Edel Santana, a Harrisburg resident for over 27 years. Edel is a truck driver owner-operator since 2003. His business was greatly and negatively impacted by poor decisions from previous administrations, at times to the point where he nearly had to close down and change careers. He reached out to me recently to express his thanks for the hard work that President Trump and me, as well as Republicans in Congress, have spent getting the Working Families Tax Cut passed. The tax cut has been especially impactful with meaningful relief to small business owners facing burdensome regulations and rising costs, like Edel. This relief is particularly important given that Pennsylvania’s high fuel costs – the third highest gas tax in the nation - directly impact Edel’s business. These state-level decisions hit his business hard, but because of our work to prevent the largest tax hike in history, Edel’s business is finally feeling some relief. He also told me how grateful he is for the increase in the 1099 reporting threshold for payments to independent contractors , which alleviates him of the burdensome administration and paperwork that many contractors previously suffered, as well as the new law’s reductions in taxable income for independent contractors and the higher standard deduction that directly lowers his overall tax bill. Thanks to our work with President Trump passing the largest middle-class tax cut in history, this year is shaping up to be the biggest tax refund season ever. From “No Tax on Tips, Overtime, and Social Security,” to auto loan interest deductions on new American-made vehicles, and increases to the Child Tax Credit, more money is flowing back into the pockets of hardworking Americans – like we promised. Today, we’re seeing the results of this legislation in action as Americans are receiving tax refunds averagingAs the president outlines his vision during the State of the Union, I’m sure Americans across our country and commonwealth will be grateful that we’re advancing policies that benefit the American People. The State of the Union isn’t just a moment to reflect on what’s been accomplished in the past year; it’s a chance to chart a path forward. For me, that means continuing to fight for policies in Congress that strengthen our small businesses, protect our workers, empower individuals and families, and ensure that economic growth reaches every corner of our 10U.S. Rep. Scott Perry represents Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District.
