The confidence NSW Police displayed in a breakthrough in the missing person's case dissipated after the boy's foster parents became the focus of homicide investigations.
William Tyrrell would have been 12 years old today, on the cusp of entering his teens and high school.
Many theories have been thrown up, many suspects investigated and many searches conducted, but no arrests have ever been made and no charges laid over his disappearance. "As another of William Tyrrell's birthdays comes and goes – on what should be a happy occasion – the NSW Police Force continues to actively and vigorously search for answers into his disappearance," the statement said.A coronial inquest, which began back in March 2019 and involved an unprecedented number of hearings over many hours, wrapped up in October 2020.
This development came despite police confirming years earlier she and her husband had been ruled out as suspects, and a distinct lack of evidence heard at the inquest to suggest they may be hiding something.William Tyrell's foster parents have been charged with various unrelated offences. "I don't think they should be delaying the inquest any further because the inquest is a fact-finding mission to try and find out what happened to William," she said.
"I don't think anything probative was found during those searches, because if it had been, charges would have been laid," she said.
