Premier Chris Minns announced he was bringing forward a plan to reward safe drivers, with those who keep up their 'spotless behaviour' until January seeing demerit points wiped from their licenses.

Until now, a demerit point would remain on a license for three years before it was wiped, with the new policy representing a significant boost for drivers hoping to regain a clean slate. Drivers on learner or provisional licenses will not be included in the trial as they are subject to strict conditions under the Graduated Licensing Scheme.
