Ohio State quarterback commit Brady Edmunds talked about his future with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Published: Feb. 18, 2026, 11:50 a.m.COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Brady Edmunds hasn’t arrived on Ohio State’s campus for his playing career yet. And he’s already on his third offensive coordinator. When the 2027 four-star quarterback was originally offered by, and committed to, Ohio State, it was Chip Kelly leading the Buckeyes’ offense.

Shortly thereafter, Kelly departed for the NFL and Brian Hartline took over. That left Ohio State in search of its third offensive coordinator in three years, and its fourth play-caller in four seasons.USA vs. Canada highlights Ohio State women’s hockey success at 2026 Winter Olympics: Buckeye BreakfastCarnell Tate, Max Klare and previewing Ohio State’s 2026 NFL Combine: Buckeye Talk podcast“I’m super excited about it,” Edmunds told Cleveland.com about the idea of working with Smith. “I was on the phone with him, I want to say last Thursday, but yeah, super cool guy. Seemed like kind of a calmer guy. Obviously he’s super smart. He’s been around the NFL for I think the past 13 years, which I wasn’t even aware of. Obviously, I knew he was at the Falcons and then the Steelers, but he is been around for a long time at Ole Miss too. So he’s definitely an experienced coach.” The 6-foot-5 signal-caller from Huntington Beach, California, was drawn to the idea of working for Smith, who departed the Pittsburgh Steelers after having just coached Aaron Rodgers. “Everybody preaches that Ohio State is going to get you to the NFL,” Edmunds said. “Well, now you got dudes that just came out of coaching in the NFL. So not only guys that can get you there, but you got dudes that were just there so you’re getting taught that kind of level of football knowledge and being held to that level as an 18, 19, 20-year-old before you’re in the NFL. It’s a huge addition.” Edmunds, the No. 141 overall prospect and No. 11 quarterback in the 247Sports composite rankings, noted that the idea of having a changing doesn’t really play a part in how he views his future with Ohio State. While the program has gone from Ryan Day to Kelly to Hartline to Smith as its play-callers, it’s still the same concepts as it has been for years. Only this time, it’ll be a former NFL coach calling the shots. “So at the end of the day, it’s coach Day’s offense,” Edmunds explained. “That’s what coach Fessler’s saying. He’s installing with Luke right now and he is just checking in like, ‘Hey, nothing’s changing, right?’ And Day’s like, ‘No, it’s my offense, obviously it’s going to be called somewhat different.’ Maybe you want something in a different scenario compared to a different guy that was just there. But at the end of the day, it’s coach Day’s offense.”Andrew Gillis covers Ohio State football and recruiting for Cleveland.com.
