Members of Ohio State’s 2002 national championship team unveil a sculpture honoring their fallen teammates that will be auctioned to raise money for two mental health charities.
On a weekend that the 2002 Buckeyes are being celebrated for the 20th anniversary of their national championship, Doss toldhe and his teammates felt it was important to make sure the members of that team who could not be there are not forgotten.
“It means a lot to us that we symbolically represent our entire team,” Doss said. “We want to make sure that their voices are still heard. But in the sense of our collective group paying it forward, our hearts, our passion, our togetherness is that we will never forget those guys. They meant something to us and had an impact on our team.”
The sculpture, which was designed by Los Angeles-based artist Michael Kalish, is now set to be auctioned on, a collectibles marketplace.
Saturday’s GameDay appearance was part of a weekend-long celebration for the 2002 national championship team, which began Friday night with the 2002 Champs Reunion, an event hosted by Eleven Warriors at Land-Grant Brewing Company.
