Ohio Governor Mike DeWine unveiled his budget proposal for fiscal years 2026 and 2027, emphasizing investments in children, families, the economy, workforce development, and education. The $110 billion+ budget includes a child tax credit for working parents, support for housing development and infrastructure, increased funding for schools and school choice programs, and initiatives to bolster public safety and cybersecurity.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine presented his budget proposal for fiscal year 2026 and fiscal year 2027, set to go into effect on July 1, 2025.
The proposal is more than $108 billion for fiscal year 2026 and increases to more than $110 billion for fiscal year 2027. For fiscal year 2025, the budget was more than $105 billion. "In a recent survey of working parents with young children in Ohio, nearly half say they have reduced their work hours to care for their children," he said. "This is not, of course, just a family problem. It's also a workforce problem, and it's an economic problem."
DeWine also proposed tax increases including upping the sports gaming tax in the state from 20 to 40 percent. He said the additional money would go toward to funds. One would improve and build major and minor league sports facilities. The other fund would financially support students in sports and other extracurriculars.
