Police arrested an intoxicated North Royalton man Nov. 28 after he flipped a Kia Sportage on Lucerne Drive at Normandie Boulevard.
MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio – An intoxicated North Royalton man, 36, was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. Nov. 28 after he flipped a Kia Sportage on Lucerne Drive at Normandie Boulevard.
The man was stuck inside the Kia after the crash. The car was resting on its driver’s side. The Kia had hit several utility boxes marked “AT&T high voltage.” The boxes were on the ground with wires sticking out of them. Police used a glass-breaking tool to smash the Kia’s front passenger-side window. As they helped him out of the car, they smelled alcohol.The man, when asked if he was under the influence of alcohol, said yes. He said he had consumed White Claw Hard Seltzers and Rhinegeist Brewery beers.
Police asked the man how the crash occurred. He said he was trying to duplicate a stunt he saw in the Kurt Russell movie “Death Proof.”In the movie, Russell’s character spun a car around a stop sign. The man said he was driving about 45 mph when he attempted to recreate the stunt at Lucerne and Normandie.The man was later released into his mother’s custody.
