The Blue Angels are the big draw at Seafair every year, with so many people returning year after year, to relive their childhood memories of Seafair.
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels roared over Seattle Thursday afternoon as part of their practice flights before the airshow as part of Seafair Weekend. The team will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday as part of the Seafair airshow over Lake Washington.
The Blue Angels are the big draw at Seafair every year with so many people returning year after year to relive their childhood memories of Seafair. The Navy’s Blue Angels pilots crisscross the sky at incredible speeds while moving through formations and maneuvers that appear impossible to achieve from the vantage point of the spectator on the ground.Amongst all the repeat visitors, there are plenty of people witnessing the magic of Seafair for the very first time during its 75th Diamond Anniversary. 13-year-old Josephine Van Leuden lives just a few blocks from Genesee Park where Seafair takes place, but she told KOMO she’s never been before. Her friend Sophia Wethell said the same thing. KOMO News chatted with them, at their lemonade stand, just outside the main entrance gate in the park.“It’s fun and I’m like, with one of my best friends and we’re making a good buck,” said Wethell. The heat’s going to be here for Seafair, on Saturday and Sunday, so be sure to come prepared for that with sunscreen and a hat or umbrella. You’ll want sunglasses too, to keep staring into the sky to see not only the Blue Angels perform each afternoon at 3:35 p.m. but to also check out theThe U.S. Army’s Golden Knights will be jumping into the show, plus fighter jets will be demonstrating their prowess along with helicopters and a rescue demonstration from the U.S. Coast Guard. “You know I like the history of it and I remember watching the Blue Angels when I was younger and it was just a really fun time, so I like coming and the hydroplanes and everything it’s really fun,” Sarah Brown told KOMO. In between all of this action from sea to sky, are live bands, a children’s bouncy playground, and exhibitors including the U.S. military which rolled in tanks and other large equipment for kids to climb in and on. Then at some point, all of this activity is likely to work up an appetite. You can rest assured that there are plenty of stocked vendors to fill you up and quench your thirst.“Oysters on a stick,” said Jaylah Brown, who admitted she had never tried it before but is willing to do it now. Brown took a bite and said, “Wow, It’s good, very good.” Her mom Sarah did the same; “It’s good,” she said. Ticeson also took a small bite and said, “Good, good.”If oyster on a stick is not for you, there are lots of other options from BBQ to curly fries. All bags are searched at the gate, so no weapons of any kind and no drones. Quite a police presence was seen on and around the grounds along with additional security personnel to maintain a safe environment for everyone. To avoid the traffic and the cost of parking, you can take advantage of public transportation and free shuttles that are taking people to and from the Columbia City Center light rail station.
