Each caregiver trains to be a suicide first aider, to increase their ability to save lives
The team of 22 ASIST Suicide First Aiders have finished their course through SMILE Training, thanks to the incredible support from the West Lothian Mental Wellbeing Fund distributed through Voluntary Sector Gateway West Lothian.
“Within six months we have trained and informed 102 members of our community and with each person we train to be a suicide first aider, we increase our ability to truly save lives. Disturbingly, female suicides increased by 18 to 206, while male suicides decreased by nine to 556 deaths in the latest year.
He continued: “West Lothian’s commitment to suicide prevention is reflected in the suicide statistics for the area.
