TOLEDO, Ohio - A new report from an advocacy group claims that for every five people executed in the state of Ohio, one person has been exonerated from death row. Ohioans to Stop Executions released the report titled Beyond Reasonable Doubt: Confronting the Wrongful Conviction Crisis in the State of Ohio on Monday.

The organization said the report details systemic failures, official misconduct, racial and geographic disparities and more. That report is available to read in full below. “It turns out Ohio has a massive wrongful conviction problem, far worse than anyone imagined,” commented Kevin Werner, executive director of Ohioans to Stop Executions. “Attempts to restart executions will result in the execution of innocent people, and no one wants that,” he said. A statement from the organization said the report details 12 cases of those who were sentenced to death in Ohio and were later proven innocent, as well as following a dozen so-called “shadow exonerations” where prosecutors sought the death penalty but the defendants received life imprisonment sentences before they were deemed innocent.Cleveland priest arrested in sex sting pleads guilty‘Armed and dangerous’ Massillon rape suspect arrestedAkron man sentenced to 10-years in prison for trafficking drugs while on paroleFamily unites to remember 7-year-old killed crossing Vine Street
