New Braunfels tubers could see an increase in the river management fee when they visit the Comal and Guadalupe rivers next year.

New Braunfels is considering increasing its river management fee, which is charged to non-residents using the Comal and Guadalupe rivers on summer weekends and holidays. The $2 fee has been in place since 2016, when the city increased it from $1.50. City staffers are now recommending raising it to $3 per person, according to a report to the River Advisory Committee . That $1 increase would have brought in an additional $254,969 from tubers in 2023 and $219,174 in 2024, the report said.

New Braunfels to spend $1.5M to rebuild tubers' exit on Comal River Raising the fee would help cover increased operational costs, the city report said. Since the fee was last adjusted in 2016, costs of operating materials and contracted services have increased, as have wages for city employees. Starting pay for cashiers was $9.17 per hour in 2016; that job now starts at $11.85. Starting pay for seasonal park rangers has risen from $12.06 to $15.38 per hour.

New Braunfels concerned about crowds, trash along stretch of Guadalupe River According to the city’s 2025 budget, the river fund is expected to bring in about $1.7 million next year, from fees, parking revenue, fines, permits and a transfer from the city’s solid waste fund for trash collection. The budget calls for spending about $602,000 on public safety and about $805,000 on river operations, with 71 seasonal positions and two full-time employees.
