New Braunfels is replacing underwater steps that Comal River tubers use to exit near Schlitterbahn, aiming to make the area safer and more accessible.
Tubers will have a new, safer way to climb out of the Comal River next summer, when improvements to New Braunfels ' Last Tuber’s Exit are complete — but the work might not be done in time for the spring break crowds. The stairs and ramps are the last public place for tubers to leave the Comal River before it flows into the Guadalupe River .
New Braunfels board OKs spending $4.5M on Pearl-style marketplace project The project is intended to provide an accessible route that complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, abandon an aging New Braunfels Utilities water line that runs below the stairs, and “make it a safer exit for those using the river,” he said. In April, the EDC approved spending $1.2 million for construction, which the City Council unanimously approved in May.
New Braunfels concerned about crowds, trash along stretch of Guadalupe River “We feel very confident with the contractor that we’ve got that they’re going to knock it out as quick as they can,” McClelland said. “They want to get out of the river as quick as they can because that’s their biggest risk as well.” While Memorial Day typically marks the start of New Braunfels' tubing season, spring break is also a popular time for river tourism in the city.
