Quinn Anderson had nine saves for Walsh Jesuit, while Wyatt Butler had 11 for New Albany to force PKs with the score tied at zero.

Walsh Jesuit's Brady Catanzarite holds the state runner-up trophy after the Warriors fell in PKs to New Albany.COLUMBUS, Ohio — With 20 saves between Walsh Jesuit‘s Quinn Anderson and New Albany’s Wyatt Butler it seemed fitting that Sunday evening’s Division II boys state soccer championship at Historic Crew Stadium went into penalty kicks.

This season marks New Albany’s fourth trip to the state semifinal, and third since 2020. The Eagles made the state championship and came up short in both 2020 and 2022, but with just loss on the year there was confidence this time around could be the one. New Albany set the tone early. The Eagles put six shots on goal in the first half, and Anderson stopped every single one with ease. He also had a punch out on an Eagles corner kick and got hit by a New Albany forward on more than one occasion.

“I think we go into a penalty shootout, for example, relying on him. We said it in the huddle before there’s not a single man in this in the state of Ohio that we trust more than him,” Brady Catanzarite said. “So it didn’t fall our way, but I mean, nine out of 10 times I believe we win that, and I trust in Quinn 100%.”
