The streaming giant announced the release date with a trailer in March. The story takes place in a coastal town that is hit by a Category 5 hurricane, leading to the entire town being flooded. Amid the destructive storm, the residents struggle to survive as the water levels continue to rise quickly. To make things worse, the flood also drags a shiver of hungry sharks. Its cast features Djimon Hounsou as Dale, Phoebe Dynevor as Lisa, Whitney Peak as Dakota, Alyla Browne as Dee, Stacy Clausen as Ron, and Dante Ubaldi as Will, among others. Tommy Wirkola directed and wrote the script for Thrash. He reunited with Matthew Weston for cinematography, having previously worked on the David Harbour-led Violent Night in 2022. Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, and Tommy Wirkola served as the producers. The former two previously collaborated on projects like Don’t Look Up, Vice, The Big Short, Fresh, and The Other Guys. Sony Pictures, one of the movie’s production companies, had planned to release the movie in cinemas. However, the studio later canceled those plans and opted for a direct-to-streaming release earlier this year, perFurthermore, the studio initially titled the movie Beneath the Storm, later renaming it Shiver. But after Sony transferred the rights to Netflix, the company ultimately finalized the title as Thrash., producer McKay said he has been obsessed with sharks since the age of 9.
