Closing dates announced for branches in Nottingham, West Bridgford, Worksop, Mansfield and Newark
NatWest will close five of its bank branches across Nottinghamshire within months as customers are turning to online banking "more than ever before". The bank, which serves more than 19 million customers, will close a total of 53 branches nationally this year.
The closures come as NatWest has reported an average decrease of 62 per cent for counter transactions for personal customers when comparing October 2019 to October 2024. The number of customers using mobile apps has also increased by 53 per cent between the same period of time. The branch in Market Place, Long Eaton is also set to shut, with a closing date listed as May 29.
A NatWest spokesperson said: "Our customers are using digital banking more than ever before – over 80 per cent of our active current account holders now use our digital services and over 97 per cent of retail accounts with us are now opened online.
The bank added that it is expecting to invest in excess of £20million in its network this year to improve customer service and its branches, as well as reduce the environmental impact of its buildings and invest in shared solutions like the Post Office. The spokesperson said: "Digital banking continues to provide new and inclusive ways of allowing the overwhelming majority of our individual and business customers, including the elderly and vulnerable, to bank with us in ways that they weren’t able to before. But we know that a small number of people are not yet comfortable with it, which is why we are proactively reaching out to support them with this transition, having made over 200,000 calls last year.
