“We’re working with the FBI. We’re working with several labs around the country on this,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.
“I just can’t share everything I know, but I will tell you this: We have some DNA that we think is still workable, and we have to work that," the sheriff told journalist Bill Buckmaster on Friday. "And we know the science, and we know we have some labs around this country who are really working diligently to get there with this.
We also know we have thousands of video footage that we still have to sort through.”for more than a month. Her disappearance has prompted a multi-agency search involving local law enforcement and the FBI. She was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson,Nanos said at a news conference last month that there were clues at the crime scene indicating that Guthrie"did not leave on her own." He also said Nancy Guthrie needs daily medication, and it could be fatal if she did not take it every 24 hours.Nanos said he has “full faith” in his team’s ability to determine what happened in the case. “We’re working with the FBI. We’re working with several labs around the country on this. We’re working with forensics, examinators, examiners of digital video, media. There’s just a lot going on,” Nanos said.Nanos said he has received tips from places as far as Australia. “They continue to call, and that’s a good thing,” he said. “We don’t want to discourage people, but sometimes, it gets a little bit much, but it’s OK. I want them to call us.”“I wish there was something I could do different that would have produced better results,” Nanos said. He said he is not the investigator of the case, but he is in charge of the department handling the investigation, and he is briefed by the investigators.“We desperately ask this community for renewed attention to our mom’s case—please consult camera footage, journal notes, text messages, observations, or conversations that in retrospect may hold significance. No detail is too small. It may be the key.”“The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to analyze various forms of evidence in the Nancy Guthrie case, including material from laboratories as well as images and videos captured by cameras. At this time, we will not comment on the details or status of this analysis.”The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. "To help keep the tip line available for actionable investigative law enforcement leads, please submit only serious and detailed fact-based information, no well-wishes or case theories. The tip line is not for personal messages to the Guthrie family," FBI Phoenix said. Additionally, 88-CRIME is offering a reward of $102,500 for the arrest of the person or persons involved in the disappearance. Savannah Guthrie announced on Instagram that the family is offering a reward of up to $1 million, payable only for her mother's recovery. Do you have a story that Newsweek should be covering?
