RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson is warning veterans about a new scam offering fake benefits, including monthly payments and free dental coverage. The offer, often described as a “Veteran Savings Program,” is not legitimate, and officials say no such program exists.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the scam uses urgent language and high-pressure tactics, urging veterans to call within a limited time to claim benefits. Those who respond are then asked to provide personal and financial information, putting them at risk for identity theft. “Veterans deserve our respect and support, not scams that try to take advantage of their service,” Jackson said. “If it sounds like someone is offering you free money — it’s probably a scam. Please report them to my office immediately.”“North Carolina’s veterans have earned our deepest gratitude, and we will not tolerate schemes that target their service or their benefits,” said Jocelyn Mitnaul Mallette, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Officials are urging veterans and their families to stay alert. If you receive one of these offers, do not call the number provided and instead discard it. Government agencies will not ask for personal information or payment through gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or payment apps. Experts also recommend verifying any benefits directly through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or official government websites. Veterans are encouraged to monitor bank accounts and credit reports for suspicious activity. If personal information may have been compromised, consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze.Beer dumped on officer, 113 arrested during underage drinking party in Gulf ShoresState cites new violations at Baldwin Co. development, warns of possible penalties BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. — State environmental officials say a troubled Baldwin County development remains out of compliance, warning the developer could fStimpson: Mobile's new International Airport won't open until early 2027Plans to re-install the Conrad Albrizio murals removed from the Mobile Civic Center into the new Arena call for the two murals to be cut into smaller pieces.TheThe Mobile Housing Authority has announced that the following Public Housing waiting lists will open to new applicants on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 9:00 am.The
