NIBONG TEBAL: The traffic flow on Penang Juru Highway was reported to be smooth on the first day of the movement control order (MCO) on Wednesday (March 18).

South Seberang Prai OCPD Supt Shafee Samad said as of 9am this morning, traffic flow in both directions was smooth and under control.

"For the time being, everything is under control with vehicles coming in from the north and south of the highway in a smooth traffic flow.A security guard who works at the Juru toll said everything seemed normal despite the announcement from the government to restrict the movement in the country. "I see nothing peculiar or any vehicles rushing like mad at the highway. Everything is normal," he said.

A check by The Star team this morning saw few vehicles entering and exiting the toll at Juru in a steady stream, with many tankers and lorries sighted. On Monday Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared that the entire country will be on a movement control order starting from March 18 to 31 to deal with the rise in Covid-19 cases.
