The Panini Senior Bowl, an all-star game showcasing top college football players, is set to kick off this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Hancock Whitney Stadium. Mobile has hosted the event since 1950, making it a beloved tradition for football fans and local businesses.
"Senior bowl is kind of a part of our city's brand, you know, it's part of our history, and it's something that we love to host," said Ashley Rains, Visit Mobile's senior public relations and communications manager. The game draws scouts from all 32 NFL teams and more than 100 players, including Julian Neal from Arkansas, who has been trained by Rico Armstrong since high school. Armstrong expressed his excitement, saying, "This is what I worked for all those years. So to finally see it happen, it's amazing." The event is expected to generate upwards of $11 million for the city, with packed restaurants and shopping ahead of game day.Gary Owens, owner of Bienville Souvenir Store, shared the community's enthusiasm: "You get to find out who gets drafted, which is exciting because you just met them during the week of practice. So it's exciting for the community.
