Auburn, Alabama linemen met in ‘best-on-best’ drill
It’s a tradition for football practices to end with a “best-on-best” drill, and American team head coach Joel Thomas gave it a home-state feel at the Panini Senior Bowl on Tuesday. Thomas called out Auburn offensive lineman Jeremiah Wright and Alabama defensive lineman LT Overton for a one-on-one pass-rushing rep to finish off the first of three days of work at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.
The 6-foot-5, 340-pound Wright got the best of the 6-2, 278-pound Overton.Wright and Overton not only represent their state’s two traditional power college programs, but both grew up in the state of Alabama. Wright is a Selma native, while Overton spent much of his childhood in Tuscaloosa and Bessemer before moving to the Atlanta area to finish high school. Senior Bowl practices continue Wednesday.
