BREAKING: All five passengers on board the missing submersible that disappeared on a voyage to the wreckage of the Titanic are believed to be dead, after five large pieces of debris were found. 9News FULL DETAILS:

The US Coast Guard said the vessel, vanished in a remote part of the North Atlantic Ocean, appeared to have suffered a "catastrophic implosion" and the crew's families had been notified.

"These men were true explorers who shared a distinct spirit of adventure, and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world's oceans. "I can only imagine what this has been like for them and I hope that this discovery provides some solace during this difficult time."US Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger said the debris found was consistent with a "catastrophic implosion".

Hours earlier, the mission passed the critical 96-hour mark when breathable air could have run out, a grim moment in the intense international effort to save the five people aboard. Rescuers rushed more ships and vessels to the site of the disappearance, hoping underwater sounds they detected for a second straight day might help narrow their search in the urgent, international mission.
