Michael Brantley returning to Astros
Michael Brantley was limited to spectator duty during this year's Astros championship run, having been sidelined since late June by shoulder discomfort that ultimately required surgery in August.In need of a left fielder, the Astros are turning to a familiar face.
The deal is pending a physical for Brantley, who was limited to 64 games this past season. What was described as"right shoulder discomfort" when he went on the IL on June 28in August. That procedure was described as"arthroscopic labral repair." Asked at the time how hopeful he was of returning to the Astros, he replied,"Very. From Jim Crane all the way down, day one when I walked into this door, I was welcomed with open arms. I’m very appreciative of everything that this organization and my teammates have given me and my family."
Though they won the 2022 World Series without Brantley's bat in the lineup, the Astros would much have preferred to do so with his contact skills as part of their attack. Brantley owns a .306/.368/.464 slash line over his four seasons in Houston, during which he cemented his reputation as one of the major leagues' hardest hitters to strike out.
