Free agent Michael Brantley is returning to the Houston Astros.
The deal also includes $4 million in incentives. The 35-year-old veteran outfielder spent the last four years in Houston and has been a cornerstone of the team’s offense.Since 2019, he’s slashed .306/.368/.464 with 40 home runs and 185 RBIs. In his 14-year career, Brantley has a slash line of .298/.356/.439 with 127 career home runs and 713 RBIs. He has consistently been one of the league’s most productive outfielders. He is a five-time All Star and has won a Silver Slugger award.
There were rumors that the Astros were exploring outside options such as Michael Conforto, but they ultimately settled for the in-house option who has been a constant source of production for them. Brantley notably did not play in the postseason this year after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery in August. Clearly, the Astros are not concerned with his health going into 2023.
