Meta's latest smart glasses shift focus to prescription users, combining adjustable hardware with AI-driven features like chat summaries.
Meta has announced two new AI-powered smart glasses aimed at users who rely on prescription eyewear, expanding its push into everyday wearable technology. The new models, Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber Optics , are designed to support nearly all prescriptions while improving comfort for extended use.
The announcement also includes new frame colors, lens options, and additional AI features expected to roll out soon. The glasses will start at $499 in the United States. Pre-orders are now open online, with broader availability beginning April 14 at optical retailers and select international markets.Focus on prescription usersMeta is targeting a large group of users who depend on corrective lenses daily. While earlier versions of its smart glasses supported prescription lenses, the company is now designing hardware specifically around that use case. The Blayzer model features a rectangular frame and will be available in Standard and Large sizes. The Scriber comes with a more rounded design, offering a different fit and aesthetic.“Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Ray-Ban Scriber Optics glasses feature overextension hinges, interchangeable nose pads, and optician-adjustable temple tips, so they’re adaptable to your unique face shape for a tailored fit.”The company is focusing on adjustability to improve comfort across different face shapes. Opticians can modify multiple elements of the frame, which may help users who wear glasses for long hours.Alongside the new models, Meta is expanding its existing Ray-Ban Meta lineup with updated colors and lens combinations. These changes appear aimed at keeping the product aligned with seasonal trends. The Skyler frame will be offered in Shiny Transparent Peach with Transitions Brown lenses. The Headliner frame will feature Matte Transparent Peach with Transitions Grey lenses. The Wayfarer frame will be available in Shiny Transparent Grey with Transitions Sapphire lenses.Oakley Meta glasses are also receiving updates. New variants include Vanguard Black with Prizm Black lenses and Vanguard White with Prizm Rose Gold lenses.Additional options include transition-enabled lenses and sport-focused configurations across the Vanguard and HSTN styles. These updates expand the available choices for users and reflect growing competition in the smart eyewear segment.AI features expand furtherMeta is also introducing new software features that rely on voice and camera inputs. The updates aim to make interactions more hands-free and integrated into daily routines. One of the key additions is nutrition tracking. Users can log meals by speaking or capturing a quick photo. Meta AI then extracts relevant nutritional information and adds it to a food log.Over time, the system generates insights based on user habits. Meta is also rolling out WhatsApp summaries and recall features powered by its AI system, allowing users to revisit key information more easily.“Meta says these glasses are the most comfortable ones it has ever designed, as they’re made for all-day comfort.”The company is also developing a feature called Neural Handwriting, although details remain limited at this stage. The latest update signals Meta’s continued effort to move smart glasses beyond early adopters and into more practical, everyday use cases.
