Paul Lafferty has been locked up again after hurling missile at police officers during disturbance

A man who hurled a missile at police officers outside the Suites Hotel previously killed a 15-year-old boy over drugs.

The attack occurred in the hallway of a block of flats on Sylvester Street in Everton on March 6 the same year. Justice Geoffrey Lowe QC, prosecuting, described how both teenagers were among a group who had gathered in the hall and on the stairs at round 11pm. "No one must try to compare the length of sentence I’m passing with the value of the life that has been lost which was priceless. It is said you did not like him because of an incident two months before, and you did not like the way he smirked at you.

Lafferty - who by this time already had convictions for taking a motor vehicle without consent in 1996 and 1997 and handling stolen goods in 1998 - would go on to add an offence of cannabis cultivation to his criminal record in 2012, followed by entries for possession of the class B drug in 2012 and 2015.

Sentencing on Monday, Judge Denis Watson KC said: "Without a single piece of evidence to support it, a grotesquely distorted and false narrative gained traction. That all of those housed at the hotel were rapists and the police were protecting sex offenders and so were just as bad as sex offenders.
