The Michelin Guide might be new to Texas, but it’s not new to these Texans. Get to know The Hungries.
North Texas residents Drew Stephenson and Marie Maly met online chatting about Michelin-starred restaurants in a group called The Hungries. Rather than eat dinner at home in Texas, Maly, Stephenson and their spouses flew to California to dine at The French Laundry. They're pictured after that dinner, in the French Laundry kitchen. These five Texans have almost nothing in common, save for the same expensive hobby: In their free time, they travel the world and eat at.
The most jaw-dropping Michelin experience Lim had was at Alchemist, the 2-star restaurant in Copenhagen that Horowitz will visit a few days from now.eight hours to experience Alchemist’s 50 “impressions,” or courses. Thanks to The Hungries, an online forum gives these foodies a space to share knowledge. Founders Kaitlin Orr and Anders Husa started it in 2020, and it’s now their full-time jobs to host high-profile restaurant experiences for a devoted group of online friends. Orr and Husa’s meet-cute would make for a great movie: Their first date was at 3-star Michelin restaurant Frantzén in Stockholm. They got engaged at 3-star Addison in San Diego.
Dallas resident Alanna Stephenson, on her honeymoon with Michelin-obsessed husband Drew Stephenson, cuts into cake during a meal at 3-star Michelin restaurant Noma in Copenhagen.Notably, all five Hungries we talked to said the price of a Michelin-starred meal doesn’t matter. He thinks fine-dining chefs will start striving for stars, which could mean more tasting menus or higher prices. On the other hand, he said, “You’ll see chefs not leave for New York or Los Angeles ... They’ll be here, trying to get those stars.”Maly and Stephenson agreed the Dallas dining scene will probably become more vibrant. But all of them question whether Michelin will bring international tourists to Texas’ five biggest cities.
