The Mavericks team that begins training camp on Wednesday is deeper, younger, more athletic and, on paper, better than last season’s 38-44 squad.
The Mavericks’ four-time All-Star and first-team All-NBA selection missed five games last March due to what the team described as a left thigh strain.
“I do not know what to say; it’s not okay. At the same time, I have to prepare for one more game, and then for a whole season in the NBA.” Despite having no roster space for a full-contract player, a trade or trades before the season or prior to the February trade deadline certainly can’t be ruled out. The expectation that Portland will trade Damian Lillard and the possibility of Philadelphia dealing disgruntled James Harden could well kindle the larger trade market sooner than later.
The Mavericks and Green have said they want to agree on an extension. If they agree to terms it will be a major commitment by the Mavericks and signal that they intend for Green to be a long-term part of the team’s core.
